IRS e-File

The IRS e-file is another example of a new model of collaboration between a federal agency and the private sector.

The IRS e-file system allows the tax filing process to be sped up guaranteeing an earlier refund to citizens as well as a reduction in filing errors. The electronic filling of tax returns is available to the citizen through private entities that collaborate with the IRS on the e-file program. The citizen can either use a private tax preparer who can submit the tax return electronically to the IRS or file electronically on his or her home computer using a commercial software vendor or private contractor that has established electronic links directly to IRS mainframe computers.
