Leveraging Technology for ARRA Reporting: A Best Practices and Knowledge Sharing Forum
Monday, September 14, 2009, 9:00am – 12:00pm

ARRA Forums Overview
The federal requirements for reporting stimulus funds rely on the ability of state agencies to leverage current as well as new technology resources to capture, manage, and deliver the data required. Some agencies are off to a quick start building on previously existing knowledge and capability; others are new to the world of federal reporting requirements. The environment is ripe for cross agency knowledge sharing on how to create effective technology-based reporting and public dissemination strategies.

CTG, with the support of Governor Patterson’s Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Cabinet, is hosting a series of forums to share best practices. The goal of the forums is to help support the exchange of information and leverage the existing best and current practices in this area. The first forum will highlight the information technology solutions developed by the Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) to manage ARRA reporting.

September 14th Forum
ARRA Reporting at NYSDOT

Nancy Mulholland, CIO for the NYS Department of Transportation, and Tom Johnston, Manager of the Business Solutions Bureau and IT Lead on NYSDOT’s ARRA project team, will share how NYSDOT is managing ARRA reporting. They will be joined by Mark Baird and Cindy Beighey, who oversaw the design and implementation of the DOT’s ARRA reporting solution.

The presentation will provide:
  • an overview of ARRA reporting challenges from the Federal Highway Administration and the Office of Management and Budget (Section 1512);
  • other reporting or informational requirements of various other ARRA stakeholders, including the Governor’s Office, Congressional committees, and elected officials;
  • details on how NYSDOT approached ARRA, focusing specifically on their approach to meeting the ARRA reporting challenge, including the solution design, its capabilities and constraints;
  • a demonstration of NYSDOT’s solution;
  • a demonstration of a "proof of concept" that NYSDOT and Oracle have developed using Business Intelligence tools, which enrich the reporting capabilities of the current solution; and
  • discussion of additional unmet needs and potential solutions.
After NYSDOT’s presentation, CTG will moderate a question and answer and discussion session.
