Markku Raitio is currently serving as the Director of Information Technology and Communications (act.) at the City of Helsinki.
Before assuming his current position, he was the Chief Information Officer, appointed in 2010. In this capacity, he is responsible for the strategic oversight of IT and the delivery of digital transformation programmes decided by the City Executive Board. Since 2012, he has been a member of the National Advisory Group for Government Technology in Finland.
As of 2016, he is a board member and the chair of the steering committee of Forum Virium Helsinki, a city-owned subsidiary and test-bed for new digital and social innovations.
Raitio has worked for more than 25 years in IT and for most of his career in the private sector, including senior management and executive positions at Siemens in sales, business and CIO, as well as Guest Auditor for IT, related global transformation programmes.
Prior to joining the City of Helsinki Mr. Raitio worked at KPMG as Senior Advisor and was assigned to a programme of the Finnish Innovation Fund to design and implement business and operating models for Shared IT Services for cities. Mr. Raitio holds a Master’s degree in Political Science and Government.
