James Dias was named Vice President for Research in 2009 after 21 years on the faculty of UAlbany’s Department of Biomedical Sciences in the School of Public Health.
Dias was a member of the Department of Biochemistry at Albany Medical College, a research scientist with the Wadsworth Center of the New York State Department of Health, and scientific director of the Wadsworth Center’s scientific core facilities. Dias was chair of the Biomedical Sciences Department in UAlbany's School of Public Health from 2002-2009.
He received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in the animal science subspecialty of reproductive physiology, from Washington State University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Gonzaga University, Washington.
He is the recipient of several NIH career development awards, including an individual National Research Service Award, a New Investigator Award and a Research Career Development Award.
