Leveraging Technology for ARRA Reporting: A Best Practices and Knowledge Sharing Forum #3
Thursday, April 22, 2010, 9:00am - 11:00am @ CTG
CTG will host the third and final forum designed to support the sharing of current and best practices in the use of technology resources to capture, manage, and deliver the data required for ARRA reporting. Theresa Pardo will give a keynote presentation on the new requirements for transparency put forth by the Obama administration and how they translate into changes for the states. The keynote will be followed by a panel discussion from members of different state agencies, with different roles in the ARRA reporting process. The morning will conclude with a group discussion of the lessons learned over the last year through the forums.

CTG Helps to Frame a Public Management Research Agenda for the Obama Administration

The IBM Center for The Business of Government hosted a forum to examine the Obama Administration's themes for a high-performing government and to frame a public management research agenda. Theresa Pardo, CTG director, participated along with nearly 50 of the nation's top public management researchers, scholars, and distinguished practitioners. The forum was an effort to help bridge the gap between research and practice, and to collectively develop a research agenda that would help government executives move things forward.

The IBM Center recently released a report that includes the papers used for discussion at the event, as well as a series of research questions that participants helped develop during small group sessions, which they thought would be useful to both researchers and practitioners over the next few years.


Theresa Pardo to serve on NSF DataOne Working Group on Socio-Cultural Issues

Theresa Pardo, CTG director, has been nominated to serve as a member of the National Science Foundation (NSF) DataONE (Observation Network for Earth) Working Group on Socio-Cultural Issues. Specifically, she will work as a member of the Usability and Assessment Working Group. DataONE is part of the NSF DataNet initiative, which is designed to provide archival infrastructure for science data. DataNet projects bring together scientists, librarians, information scientists, social scientists, and computer scientists to tackle the difficult issues of data sharing, data management, and digital data preservation.


Norwegian eGovernment Delegation Visits CTG to share research and practice

An eGovernment delegation from Norway visited CTG as part of a larger study tour that also included the White House Open Government Team and the United Nations. UAlbany's President George Philip and Vice President for Research James Dias joined CTG director Theresa Pardo in welcoming the delegation.

The delegation are members of The ICT Forum of Government Administrations and represented administrative leaders of several Norwegian ministries, directorates, and institutions involved in implementing the Norwegian ICT-policy, eGovernment and public services, or innovative research in this field. The focal point of their visit was to learn more about the recent federal, state, and local strategies in the U.S. for renewing the public sector and its services to the American people. The delegation and CTG staff shared their initiatives and approaches to eGovernment research.
