Program
The 2010 iGov Research Institute field venue is The Hague, in the Netherlands. Students accepted into this week-long program are given opportunities to:
- Engage with leading scholars in the field. Lectures and in-depth discussions cover cutting edge topical areas, methodologies, and theories, as well as relating research to practice and sharing first–hand experience in doing international research.
- Interact directly with public sector leaders. Through a series of field activities, students enrich their learning though discussions with experts ranging from elected officials to government managers to community organizers.
- Present their own developing research ideas and proposals to their peers and faculty for feedback and discussion.
- Participate in a small group project on an international digital government research question designed to explore ways to work in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural research teams.
- Take advantage of one-on-one discussions of their research areas and questions with faculty.
- Develop their own networks of relationships with other students and faculty who share their interests.
Through both classroom and field activities, the program addresses such topics as:
- ways to engage government organizations in mutually valuable research projects,
- comparisons of philosophies, questions, and methods for research into information age government challenges,
- research programs focused on governance, innovation, and related topics.
Students leave with a deeper understanding of international research themes and methods, and with personal and professional relationships that will continue throughout their careers.
