Dave Carter
Current Position
Head of the Manchester Digital Development Agency MDDA at Manchester City Council. MDDA coordinates information society initiatives across the city-region including community-based broadband initiatives and the ONE-Manchester Digital Challenge initiative. MDDA focuses on how digital technologies can support economic regeneration and social inclusion.


Background
He was European Project Coordinator of the IntelCities – ‘Intelligent Cities’ – Project, a €11M project funded under the EU’s FP6 IST programme (2002-2006) in partnership with the University of Salford, Nokia, Cisco, Telecities/Eurocities and 20 other European Cities. In 1999 he was seconded for two years to Government Office for the North West (GONW) where he was responsible for ICT/New Media issues in relation to the implementation of the new European Structural Funds Objective 2 programme for North West England for 2000-2006. In terms of European networking his work includes supporting Manchester City Council's membership of the Eurocities and Telecities networks. He was one of the founder members and the first President of the Telecities network (1994-96) and a core member of the European Digital Cities project, a major Support Action under the Fourth Framework Programme of the European Union (1996-2000), and of the INFOCITIES Consortium (TENTelecom) 1996-98.
