UNU-IIST marked its 20th anniversary this year with an open house reception at the institute followed by a gala dinner at Star World Hotel. The grand night was officiated by Prof. Konrad Osterwalder, UNU Rector & Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations; Dr. XU Jun, representative of Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China; Dr. Wu Zhiliang, President of Macau Foundation; Mr. Manuel Carvalho, Consul-General of Portugal to Macau and Hong Kong; and Prof. Sharon Dawes (Senior Fellow, CTG), UNU-IIST Board Chair. Over one hundred guests including leaders from government, education, and media sectors of China, Macau, Portugal and other places participated in the two events. Gifts of recognition were presented to Prof. Dines Bjorner and Prof. Zhou Chaochen, the first two directors of the institute and distinguished computer scientists of high standing in the academic world.
